Hariyali chicken (Green chicken recipe)

Ingredients:


For the marinade:


1 cup fresh coriander leaves

1 cup fresh mint leaves

1/2 cup fresh spinach leaves

1/2 cup plain yogurt

2 green chilies, chopped

1 tablespoon ginger paste

1 tablespoon garlic paste

1 teaspoon cumin powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

Salt, to taste

For the chicken:


1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, finely chopped

1 tablespoon ginger paste

1 tablespoon garlic paste

1 teaspoon cumin powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

1/2 cup water

Cilantro leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:


In a blender, combine the coriander leaves, mint leaves, spinach leaves, yogurt, green chilies, ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Blend until you have a smooth and thick paste.


In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces with the green marinade. Mix well, making sure that all the chicken pieces are coated in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.


In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the oil.


Cook the chopped onions until they are golden brown.


Add the ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir until fragrant.


Cook until the marinated chicken is browned on both sides in the skillet.

Pour in the water to the skillet. Stir to combine.


Cover the skillet and let the chicken simmer for about 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.


Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves and serve hot with rice or naan bread.


Tips:


You can adjust the spiciness of the marinade by adding more or less green chilies.

If you don't have fresh spinach leaves, you can use frozen spinach that has been thawed and drained.

To make the dish even more flavorful, you can add a tablespoon of ghee or butter to the skillet before adding the chicken.
