Tandoori roti recipe

Tandoori Roti is a popular Indian bread that is made using a tandoor or clay oven. However, you can also make it at home on a stove-top using a tawa or a flat skillet. Here is a simple recipe to make Tandoori Roti at home:

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

2 tablespoons oil

3/4 cup water (or as needed)

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Mix well.

Add 2 tablespoons of oil and mix it into the flour mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.

Gently pour in the water and knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. If necessary, add extra water.

Let the dough to rest for 30 minutes, covered.

Divide the dough into little equal-sized balls after 30 minutes.

Roll a ball of dough into a circular shape with a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Roll the dough with a rolling pin and a little dry flour.

Heat a tawa or a flat skillet on medium-high heat. Once the tawa is hot, place the rolled-out dough on it.

Simmer for a minute, or until the bottom begins to blister and brown spots emerge. Next turn the roti over and cook the other side.

When all sides of the roti are cooked, remove it from the tawa and lay it on a wire rack to cool.

Repeat with the remaining dough balls.

Brush the Tandoori Rotis with some butter or ghee before serving hot with your favorite Indian curry.

Enjoy your freshly made Tandoori Rotis!
